Concert Choir Invited to Prestigious Guest Performance at OMEA
Westside Christian High School’s Concert Choir has received a prestigious invitation to be a Guest Performance choir at the Oregon Music Educators Association annual conference and All-State Weekend in Eugene in January 12-15, 2017. The choir will perform on the 4:00 p.m. Concert Hour on Friday, January 13th, at Beall Hall on the University of Oregon campus. The choir was selected from an audition sample that included song recordings of the last three years of choirs at Westside. We have our choir alumni, including some in this year’s current choir, to thank for helping us to be selected for this honor.

Here is the bio for Mr. Fox and for the Concert Choir which will be in the OMEA program next month as the choir performs!
Will Fox is in his seventh year as director of choirs at Westside Christian High School in Tigard, Oregon. In addition to two choir classes and the combined Concert Choir, Will teaches a performing worship team class called Ignite, and he started a Concert Band program at Westside this past fall. He owns a private music studio where he teaches voice, piano, and guitar. Will worked as an Associate and Music Pastor for twenty years prior to his teaching at Westside.
Fox serves as one of the High School Repertoire and Resource Chairs for Oregon ACDA and is a certified choral adjudicator in Oregon. He is the Associate Director of the Oregon SenateAires Barbershop Chorus, one of the finest choruses of its kind in the country. He sings Lead in One Man Short, a champion barbershop quartet. He spent the past four years singing with the Marylhurst Choral Union and two years with the Marylhurst Chamber Choir.
Westside Christian High School Concert Choir
The Westside Christian High School Concert Choir is a 50-voice choir from a 3A, private high school located in Tigard, OR, with a population of 240 students. Westside does not have a graded choir program; it simply welcomes any student who has a desire to sing. The choir consists of students in grades 9-12. An auditioned class of fourteen singers (Soli Deo Gloria) and a non-auditioned class of thirty-six singers (Westside Voices) meets four days per week in separate classes, preparing music for each ensemble, as well as for the combined Concert Choir. The Concert Choir, joining those two ensembles, only meets together on select Thursday mornings for an hour about fifteen times per year and has a fall and spring retreat. Despite these limitations, the choir program has enjoyed numerous awards and honors.
Under Fox’s leadership, the Concert Choir has won the OSAA 3A Choir State Championship the past six consecutive years and Soli has won several jazz festivals in its division. Westside’s choral program strives to reach three goals: Glorify God, Share the Love of Christ with Others, and Sing with Excellence. The Performing Arts department at Westside Christian consistently exhibits excellence in its vocal and technical development of students who possess varied singing abilities and experience. Westside regularly receives comments on its broad and varied programming, in its presentation of various musical styles, in its commitment to excellence in musicianship, and in the growing character of its students.
Mr. Fox and the choir are deeply honored and humbled by the invitation to perform today for OMEA. Thank you!
Congratulations to Westside’s choir students, past and current, for their pursuit of excellence and for their opportunity to be used by God to minister in music.
