New Head of School Hired

Westside Christian High School (WCHS) announces the hiring of Deborah J. Miller, Ed. D. as Head of School following an exhaustive nationwide search. Dr. Miller will be responsible for academic programs; supervision of Westside’s faculty, administration, and staff; and oversight of development efforts.

Dr. Miller completed all of her college, graduate, and post-graduate education at George Fox University. She holds a Doctorate in Education, a Masters in Education, and graduated valedictorian while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education.

Dr. Miller brings a robust level of experience and training to the position of Head of School. She taught for nine years at Hope Christian School in Aloha, Oregon, after which she and her husband founded Vancouver Christian High School (VCHS) in Vancouver, Washington. While at VCHS, she served as a teacher and assistant administrator.

In 2006, Dr. Miller became an associate professor at Multnomah University (MU) and served as Teacher Education Program Director. During her tenure at MU, she also served as Provost Council member, Academic Dean’s Council member, Diversity Task Force member, and Curriculum Committee member. She concurrently sits on the board of Come and See Africa (CASA).

WCHS Board Chair Hutch Johnson noted that the Board is particularly excited about the hiring of Dr. Miller. “Dr. Miller has the credentials, experience, and training to continue the development of Westside Christian High School into one of the outstanding academic private high schools in Oregon,” said Johnson. “Her clear and vibrant faith will ensure that this happens while maintaining the strong foundation of a Christian worldview. This has been the hallmark of Westside since its founding in 1981.”

“It is with great joy and anticipation that I accept the job of Head of School at Westside Christian High School,” said Miller. “What an honor to become part of the tradition of excellence and commitment to God that marks the heritage of Westside. As a lifetime educator, with the vast majority of that time in Christian institutions, I speak from experience when I say that there is little as rewarding as watching students grow in their knowledge of and love for God, seeking to discover His will in their lives in the context of their educational experience.”

After operating in leased spaces for 32 years, WCHS moved into their new campus earlier this year, located at the intersection of Hwy. 217 and Hwy. 99. This was made possible through a $12.5M capital campaign. Westside is currently beginning construction of the new gymnasium.
