A Wilderness Trek

Westside Girls Soccer is off to a fun start this summer.

August began with “Guest Coaches Camp,” with some fantastic sessions run by three different former players, each of whom played top level college soccer, and now each coach the beautiful game. Then, more spirited training sessions last week and on Thursday, a team bonding event as the girls donned their hiking gear and headed up the gorge.

First, the girls hiked up and in about 2 miles to the pristine “Triple Falls.”  No surprise but several players “attacked” the trail like it was a competition to see who could work the hardest and get there first. Back down to the trailhead and followed by a short walk up the road and then it was time to negotiate the large log debris pile that blocks the way into Oneonta Falls and the pool at the base of the falls that offered swimming and minor rock jumping. The water was brisk, but after a couple of hours hiking in the heat, it was a well earned cool down.

Treats on the drive home, including an ice cream concoction featuring Pineapple, made for an enjoyable end to a memorable outing.

The team begins formal tryouts and training this week with the first preseason match just 12 days away.
