Chris will be teaching Algebra 2, Statistics and Physics and has done so for the past 11 years. Though not born here, as an infant Chris moved with his parents to the beautiful state of Oregon and has remained an Oregonian ever since. He graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Mathematics and later obtained his Masters in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. Prior to 2000, Chris both served in Pastoral ministry and managed a radio station for a number of years. Since 2000, Chris has had the opportunity to work in education, which he considers to be the passionate vocation of his life. He is thrilled to teach young people the wonders of Science and Mathematics which he regards as irrefutable evidence of our Lord’s incredible design.
Chris and his wife Melinda have four children: Peter, Andrew, Jeffrey and Lydia. Together, they have had the immense privilege to live overseas for a number of years but have now returned to Oregon. They enjoy family time spent in playing games, exploring the outdoors, and just plain hanging out together.
Kurt Trine teaches English 9, English 9 Honors, and U.S. History. He has 3 years of teaching experience. He earned his BA in History from Portland State University in 2011, and his MA in Teaching from Concordia University in 2012. Kurt enjoys travel, photography, camping, reading, history, sports, running sound at his church, and real community with close friends. He has been married to his best friend and fellow adventurer, Erin, for 7 years this December. He can say without hesitation that nothing has displayed God’s character to him better than her beauty, grace, and love.
Kurt is humbled and excited to have the opportunity to serve at Westside Christian High School. He feels that WCHS is a place where his personal goals as an educator align beautifully with the school’s goals of educating the whole student. He is always looking to find practical ways to challenge his students in the exploration of how they are created to live in relationship with God and how they are simultaneously and uniquely called to bring His Kingdom to earth.
Kurt hopes that he can represent Jesus well to his students, and that they will experience God’s love and grace as he has. He also hopes that they will leave his classes understanding themselves better, specifically in what they know, feel, and do. Just as he expects from his students, Kurt looks forward to learning and growing as well as offering his unique gifts and abilities at WCHS.
