Many Westside students derive deep satisfaction from helping individuals with intellectual disabilities become physically fit, productive and respected members of society. They have found it rewarding to volunteer for the Special Olympics by assisting with sports training and competition.
Helping at the Special Olympics has been a rich tradition at Westside. For over fifteen years we have served with distinction as a school that wants to bring the love of Christ to these events. Through a kind smile, an encouraging word, and showing value to those who, like us, are created uniquely in God’s image, our students have changed lives – others' and their own.
Whether we have the privilege of verbalizing our care for others in the name of Christ or are simply able to demonstrate it non-verbally, the whole day is a tangible expression of the value God has for all those created in His image.
