Leadership Retreat Back to Blog »
Last week 48 Westside students attended a staff led Leadership Retreat at Jonah Ministries in Washington. Dr. Miller opened the weekend by asking students to search through selected passages of scripture to understand what the Bible says about leadership. The rain stayed away on Thursday, perfect for the outdoor challenges the Jonah Ministries staff helped our students work through in the afternoon hours. Thursday evening a number of barriers to leadership (peer pressure, apathy, communication, cultural expectations, and team dynamics) were explained and explored in small groups. The events of the evening closed with a ‘headlamp and helmet required’ adventure through the Mt. Adams lava caves.
On Friday morning all were asked to summarize what they’d learned, reflect on the weekend, and in closing, compose and share a personal mission statement.
The inaugural Westside Leadership Retreat was certainly a success. We look forward to building on this foundation at future Leadership Retreats in subsequent years!
