“For my senior leadership project, I conducted a nutrition education class for teen moms. It was a two-hour event where we did many activities, talked about food labels, “MyPlate”, cooking/baking substitutions and conversions, grocery shopping, meal planning, healthy snacks for kids, and even made kids snacks! I created recipe books for the moms and baskets full of cooking and baking supplies for each of them. At the end of the event, many of the moms commented that they almost didn’t come to the event out of nervousness, but they were glad they did. The information I provided them was all new information and they were so excited to take it and use it. Most people know the saying, “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime.” This was exactly my purpose for my project. I wanted to equip them with the skills and knowledge in the area of cooking and baking, and I believe the moms walked away with those newly formed gifts.”
