Soli's Sensational Spring! Back to Blog »
Soli Deo Gloria, Westside’s premiere singing group, is enjoying a very successful spring! On March 25th, the group performed on the two Finals shows of the All-Northwest Barbershop Quartet Contest and received standing ovations at both shows! On April 22nd, the group captured first place in its division at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival, receiving terrific comments from the judges: “Outstanding vocal jazz ensemble! Thanks for your dedicated efforts!” “Great energy.” “Such a fine performance! Great singing and programming!”
One of the things Mr. Fox loves about the trip to Pleasant Hill is that Soli members stay after the festival concludes to help tear down the venue where the festival is held. From breaking down chairs, to taking down staging and backdrop drapery, the group has served each of the past four years we’ve attended this festival.
Last Friday, April 28th, Soli competed in the Oregon Chamber (Small) Ensemble State Championships at Pacific University. Soli competed against 10 other schools that qualified for the small ensemble championships, most of which are 5A and 6A schools. Soli placed 3rd at the State Championships. The group sang Exsultate Justi, a Renaissance piece, and Norman Luboff’s All My Trials. Two of the judges had Soli scored in second place!
Mr. Fox is very proud of the members of Soli and of their accomplishments. Of course, they comprise only a part of the school’s Concert Choir that will compete this Thursday at the Oregon State Choir Championships at George Fox University’s Bauman Auditorium at 4:20 p.m.
You can hear Soli, our Concert Choir, Westside Voices, our non-auditioned choir, our Inaugural Concert Band, which almost qualified for the state championships in its first year, and some amazing soloists and duets at our Spring Music Concert and Art Show on Monday, May 15th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Westside Christian Gym and Commons.
