Carrie Adams teaches Bible to freshmen and seniors at Westside Christian High School. Before joining the Westside community, Carrie spent nine years between Youth With A Mission (1995-1997) and L’Abri Fellowship (2008 – 2013) in addition to five years teaching in public and private schools. Carrie received her BA in English Secondary Education from Northwest University. She is currently enrolled at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in the Masters of Christian Leadership program.
Scott Ball serves as the School Counselor and head coach in Cross Country and Track & Field. He taught for 8 years in the Hillsboro School District prior to coming to Westside in 1995. He holds BA and BS degrees in Social Studies Education and Business along with a Master’s in School Counseling from George Fox University.
Jauhn Brasseur is a Science and Technology enthusiast teaching Computer Programming, Robotic and Palenontology (dinosaur fossil) classes. After a 32 year career in cutting edge high tech computer hardware and software development at Intel, it seems a natural next step to share these learnings with the next generation of budding engineers and scientists. Along with having degrees in both Engineering and Geology, Jauhn has worked as a builder and has other passions including dinosaurs, soccer, music, raising kids, and exploration. Jauhn is also an avid history and archeology buff.
Teaching has been a part of Jauhn’s life for many years, beginning with job training in industry, teaching in church, talks to college groups and local clubs and leading Geology and Paleontology field trips. He also leads dinosaur fossil expeditions each summer providing intensive hands-on training for crew members, teenage through adult.
Rob Casteel serves as the Athletic Director and as a Math and PE Teacher. He taught for 34 years in the Beaverton School District, the last five years he was the AD at Westview High School. He holds a BA in Mathematics from Linfield College and a Masters in Teaching (mathematics) from Portland State University.
Stefanie Cook has taught Spanish at Westside for 8 years and loves it. She is passionate about helping students enjoy Spanish and explore other cultures. In addition to Spanish, Sra. Cook loves the outdoors, cooking, reading, and traveling, especially with her husband.
John was raised in West Linn, Oregon and learned a lot about the Lord growing up in the Church. After high school he attended Oregon State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Philosophy with an emphasis in World Religions.
He then attended Multnomah University where he received his Graduate Certificate in Bible in 2009. He then went on to earn his Master of Divinity in Theological Studies. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the John G. Mitchell award in 2012.
He enjoys living in his native Oregon where he spends his free time with his friends and family, playing board games, hiking, camping, and playing with his sons Ezra and Levi and precious daughter Evangeline. His wife Haley has been keeping him in line for 10 years! His passions are studying and teaching God’s word and helping out with an orphanage in Haiti while also getting involved locally with foster care. He believes that the more you truly know God, the more you love Him, and love others.
Will Fox directs all of Westside Christian High School’s music and worship ensembles, including Westside Voices, Soli Deo Gloria, Concert Choir, Concert Band and the IGNITE Worship Team class. Will owns a private music teaching business, Music At Will, where he offers private voice, piano, and guitar instruction. Prior to coming to Westside, he was a Pastor for twenty years. Will earned a Master of Divinity degree from Abilene Christian University, two B.A. degrees in the Psychology field, and a Minor degree in Music. He has been married to his wife, Lynn, for 30 years and has two grown children, Bryce (attended WCHS in 2011 and 2012) and Macy (WCHS 2015).
This is Janell Galloway’s first year at Westside Christian High School. She is teaching Chemistry, Conceptual Physics and Introduction to Chemistry. Janell earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Portland State University in 2006 and a Masters in Teaching from George Fox in 2009. Before coming to WCSH, Janell taught physical science, physics, chemistry and AP Chemistry at Sherwood High School. Janell and Scott have been married for 35 years and love traveling and spending time with their two grown sons and their families.
Caroline Hottmann is the Assistant to the Academic Dean at Westside Christian High School. Prior to Westside Caroline was on staff with Young Life in McMinnville, OR. Caroline has a BS in Biology from the University of Tennessee and has been working for Westside since 2004.
Kim Hultgren is a sophomore and senior English teacher at Westside Christian High School. She has been a Language Arts and Social Studies educator for nearly fifteen years. A California native, Kim received her undergraduate degree from UCLA and then her Masters in Teaching at Concordia in Portland. She and her husband have lived in Oregon for fifteen years and have three children.
Cassandra Jenks is the Director of Finance at Westside Christian High School. She joined Westside in August 2012 after working for 13 years in public accounting, specializing in corporate taxation and financial reporting. She received her accounting degree at Colorado Christian University. She loves to ski with her two sons Zach and Grant.
Hannah Koh is the Art Teacher and has been teaching in high schools for 7 years and loves it. She received her undergrad degree from Biola, her teaching license from UCLA, and is currently working on a Master’s degree in Theology at Western Seminary. She loves hiking with her boyfriend and pup, and painting outdoors
Mitch is part of the facilities team with custodial and maintenance duties. In addition, he facilitates a Focus Group and oversees those serving detention. Mitch and his wife Betty have three boys, Austin, Mitchell and Christopher. Mitchell and Christopher graduated from Westside.
Carol serves as the Assistant to the Receptionist, Denise Moyer, and as part of the office staff. She has been on staff at WCHS since January 2014. Carol and her husband Teddy, have two grown children. Their daughter Laura, graduated from WCHS in 2014.
Angela Little teaches Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, and AP Biology. Angela earned a Bachelor of Science as well as a Master of Science Education from Oregon State University. Through a M.J. Murdock Grant Angela had the opportunity to spent two summers at the OHSU West campus working on MS research.
Brett Meyers is the Director of Marketing & Admissions at Westside Christian High School and also teaches Personal Finance. Prior to Westside Brett was on staff at Door of Hope Church in SE Portland. Few are unaware of his ardent love for Westmont College, where he received a BA in Communication Studies. Brett also holds a MA in Theology from Wheaton Graduate School.
Sheila Michaelson is the Director of Facilities and Partnerships. She has been at WCHS since 2004. Sheila and her husband Joel have three grown children and four grandkids. She loves road trips, enjoying a good meal with friends, and college football. She received a BA in Management Organization and Leadership & Project Management from George Fox University.
Denise has been involved at Westside since 2004 and has been on staff for 9 years. Having Six of her seven kids graduate from Westside she absolutely loves this place. Denise is passionate about our students at Westside knowing they are loved. Love by God & loved by others.
Jason is passionate about languages, which is why he’s so excited to be teaching Spanish and French at Westside. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Oregon State in both Spanish and French, and since then, he has tried his hand at Portuguese, Catalan, Arabic and Korean – with dozens of phrases from a handful of other world languages thrown in. He spent his early teaching career in ESL, first teaching English in Spain. He later began working with adults from all over the world and eventually decided that enrolling in a master’s program in TESOL at Concordia University was the right path.
Kate Paul teaches Health and Leadership (Student Council and Student Ministry Team) at Westside. She is also the Student Leadership Advisor and a member of the Spiritual Life Team. Before joining the Westside community, Kate received her BS in Nutrition from Oregon State University in 2011 and her M.Ed from Portland State in 2013.
Mark Porter has been a teacher at Westside since the first graduating class of 1984. He currently teaches Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP-Calculus. During the last 30 years he has also taught Photography, Algebra II, and when we had a junior high he taught Bible, English and Speech. A little known fact is that he also was principal, (for a day). Other teaching experience includes teaching adult night classes for Math Learning Center for 15 years.

Tamara has been part of the facilities team at Westside Christian High school since August 2016. The desire of her heart is to first of all serve Jesus Christ and be an inspiration to others as His hands extended. Having a clean and safe environment for students, staff and guests is her goal.Tamara loves to read and do Messianic worship dance.
Denise Rose is the Director of Student Life and instructor of A.P. World History, World History, and French. Denise has been at Westside for 30 + years and loves ministering to the students and getting to know their families. She received her degree from Oregon State University and is an enthusiastic fan of Beaver football.
Shirly Tagayuna teaches AP Language, 11th Grade English, Speech and Creative Writing. She is also the theatre and Oregon Thespian Troupe director (#4536) here at Westside Christian High School. She graduated with a B.A. in English from Biola University (’09) and received her Masters in Teaching from Multnomah University (’12) where she studied under Dr. Debi Miller. Her teaching background includes ELL and 11th Grade English, middle and high school drama, creative writing, and speech and debate. She loves encouraging students to think critically and creatively. Shirly is a local Hawaii girl at heart and enjoys visiting her family on the North Shore of Oahu where she grew up. She loves the ocean, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones.
Chris will be teaching Algebra 2, Statistics and Physics and has done so for the past 11 years. Though not born here, as an infant Chris moved with his parents to the beautiful state of Oregon and has remained an Oregonian ever since. He graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Mathematics and later obtained his Masters in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. Prior to 2000, Chris both served in Pastoral ministry and managed a radio station for a number of years. Since 2000, Chris has had the opportunity to work in education, which he considers to be the passionate vocation of his life. He is thrilled to teach young people the wonders of Science and Mathematics which he regards as irrefutable evidence of our Lord’s incredible design.
Chris and his wife Melinda have four children: Peter, Andrew, Jeffrey and Lydia. Together, they have had the immense privilege to live overseas for a number of years but have now returned to Oregon. They enjoy family time spent in playing games, exploring the outdoors, and just plain hanging out together.
Kurt Trine teaches English 9, English 9 Honors, and U.S. History. He has 3 years of teaching experience. He earned his BA in History from Portland State University in 2011, and his MA in Teaching from Concordia University in 2012. Kurt enjoys travel, photography, camping, reading, history, sports, running sound at his church, and real community with close friends. He has been married to his best friend and fellow adventurer, Erin, for 7 years this December. He can say without hesitation that nothing has displayed God’s character to him better than her beauty, grace, and love.
Kurt is humbled and excited to have the opportunity to serve at Westside Christian High School. He feels that WCHS is a place where his personal goals as an educator align beautifully with the school’s goals of educating the whole student. He is always looking to find practical ways to challenge his students in the exploration of how they are created to live in relationship with God and how they are simultaneously and uniquely called to bring His Kingdom to earth.
Kurt hopes that he can represent Jesus well to his students, and that they will experience God’s love and grace as he has. He also hopes that they will leave his classes understanding themselves better, specifically in what they know, feel, and do. Just as he expects from his students, Kurt looks forward to learning and growing as well as offering his unique gifts and abilities at WCHS.
Michael Wenger, M.A. received his undergraduate degree in Christian Education from Biola University. He completed graduate studies at Talbot School of Theology, California State University, Fullerton, Oregon State University and Trinity Theological Seminary.
Michael has experience in ministry, education and business. He was a youth pastor on staff at the Anaheim Calvary Chapel/Vineyard with John Wimber in a church of 3,000. He taught Bible, Career Education and Physical Education for six years in the classroom. From 1984-2002 Mr. Wenger worked in operation management and Human Resource management at United Parcel Service in the Oregon District.
The past 15 years he has helped four Christian schools grow working in various leadership positions as the Dean of Students, Vice Principal, Secondary Principal and Lead Administrator in Oregon and California.
He has raised three children that follow the ways of Christ, and has five Grandchildren. He enjoys walking and praying with his wife Cindy.
Don Westerberg is our Alumni and International Student Program Director. He has been at Westside for over 30 years and has served over those years as a full-time teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, Chancellor, Campus Pastor, Alumni Director, Development Director, and now as our International Student Program Director. Don holds a B.S. in Bible from Philadelphia Biblical University (now Cairn University) and an M.Div. from Western Seminary in Portland. He has also done graduate work in education at George Fox University. Don has taught Bible for thirty years. Don and his wife, Ann, are both native Pennsylvanians and celebrated their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary this year. They have two married daughters who are Westside graduates. Don and Ann welcomed their second grandchild, Trevor, into the family this summer. Don’s interests are varied and include all things Scottish, old Pittsburgh Pirates memorabilia, World War II, C.S. Lewis, and a hot cup of tea with students.
Scott Wright earned his BA in History (Honors) from DePauw University in 1974; MA History Ohio University 1976; Teaching Certificate- Social Studies. Taught 5 years in public schools in Indiana and Oregon before starting at Westside in 1981. Married (Jody) 30 + years; son (Joel) currently in the Peace Corp serving in Lesotho, daughter (Bethany) works at Tektronix. Passions: teaching kids to be responsible Christian adults.
Lifei Wu was born into a family of educators in China. Both of her grandparents and parents were teachers. She taught Physics at Guilin University of Technology for 5 years before coming to the United States. Lifei earned a BS in Physics from Guangxi University, China and a MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Portland State University. After working at the software industry for 15 years, she has returned to her passion – teaching. Lifei is very excited to start the first Chinese language program at Westside Christian High School. Her positive attitude helps build a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom. She has always enjoyed finding ways to make learning fun.
Leah Yevseyev originally joined WCHS in 2011 to work in Development and is excited to be back with us again after taking time off to have baby #2. She received her college degree from Central Washington University and moved to Portland in 2000. Prior to joining WCHS, she worked as Database Administrator and Event Planner at The Boys & Girls Aid Society and continued doing database work at Marylhurst University. Leah is married to Dmitriy and has two children, Max and Viktoriya.
