Goal to Goal is a video series with our Athletic Director Rob Casteel, where he intends to show the human side of the athletic program. Video interviews will highlight different contributors (coaches, student athletes and parents) to the athletic program.
In Goal to Goal we hope to convey the passion and enthusiasm these people have for Westside and its athletic program.
Rob is with Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Marc Howell below.
Westside’s Varsity Cheerleading team and Drumline led a pep assembly this afternoon in advance of the home games against Dayton tonight.
Alex Rettmann, alumnus (Class of 2008) and Pastor of Youth and Young Adults at Bridgetown Church, returned to his alma mater to speak to the current student body about the need to desire and cultivate covenant relationships rather than consumer relationships.
It is always great to have those who have been nurtured at Westside to come back and return the favor to the next generation of students!
Merry Christmas Westside community. May you enjoy these next two weeks with family, friends, and hopefully ample time to reflect on what this Advent season really celebrates, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Good food, thoughtful presents, well decorated trees and great company all have their place this time of year. And yet we hope that you also build in times of remembrance for what happened in Bethlehem some two thousand years ago, the in-breaking of God’s son into our fallen world. May time to contemplate drive us to deep gratitude for our Savior, Messiah, Emmanuel and Lord.
The birth our Jesus Christ, a very first merry Christmas indeed!
The Westside Office Staff would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas! The office will be closed these next two weeks (Monday, December 18th – Tuesday, January 2nd) until school resumes on Tuesday, January 2nd.
Senior Laura Staropoli was named OSAA’s 3A/2A/1A State Player of the Year after her outstanding final season as a Westside Eagle. The conclusion of her high school soccer career caps one of the most incredible 4 year runs in history.
An ambidextrous attacker, Staropoli was a threat from any position on the field. Over the course of her four years she netted 117 career goals, number two all time in Oregon state history. Though no official statistic for this exists, her coach estimates that 55 % of these came off of her dangerous left foot, and 45 % from the right. With the ability to almost effortlessly convert from either side, Staropoli proved difficult to defend from the moment she stepped onto the field her freshmen year. Laura also dished out 52 career assists.
In addition to almost unmatched personal production, Laura set the tone for the Eagles as a team captain all four year. Not coincidently, these past four years the Eagles have been on an impressive run. Westside has been to the state playoffs 4 consecutive years, reaching the quarterfinals or better each season. During two campaigns the Eagles advanced to the state semifinals, and once the State Championship, falling to OES in a tough final.
Laura was also voted 1st team All League 4 times, in addition to 4 consecutive appointments as 1st team All State. While undoubtedly an unparalleled talent on the pitch, her transition to collegiate soccer (she will play for College of Idaho next year) will leave more than just a talent hole on the field. She will also be greatly missed for the leadership, stability, and grit that she demonstrated and shared with her teammates.
Laura Staropoli, your Oregon State Player of the Year, and always a Westside Eagle!
Monday night our music students provided a wonderful kick off to the Christmas Season. The Choir, Soli Deo Gloria, Concert Band, and soloist blessed the audience with traditional and contemporary pieces, celebrating the coming of Christ to the earth. Many alumni joined the Choir in their traditional musical finale of Messiah Has Come and Let Us Adore.
Thanks to Mr. Fox and all of the students for serving us such a special evening!
Come enjoy Westside’s annual Christmas Concert and Art Show on Monday, December 11th. The Art Show starts at 6pm, and the Christmas Concert at 7pm.
We hope to see you there!
Westside students and staff shared what they are thankful for in advance of Thanksgiving this week!
