Soli Deo Gloria prepared a package of jazz music to perform at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival this past weekend, and there captured 2nd place. The group received high praise from the judges, and were lauded from many in the audience as well. You can take a look and listen to their performance here: Soli at Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival
Soli has been participating in this festival for five years, and Choir Director Will Fox is the most proud not of the outstanding finishes Soli always seems to secure, but rather the service-heart of Westside’s students. Again, as they have in the past, students stayed long after finals songs had been sung to break down the staging, sound system, chairs, etc.
It was a great weekend of fun, great singing, and service. Congrats Soli!
Westside’s Concert Choir captured its 11th consecutive OSAA Oregon State Choir Championship on Thursday, May 4th. The choir received 339 out of a possible 360 points. Amazing!
Hats off to a group of dedicated choir students and to Mr. Fox! You can see and celebrate with our state championship Concert Choir, the award-winning Soli Deo Gloria, and with our new Concert Band at our Spring Concert and Art Show on Monday, May 15th, at Westside!
Soli Deo Gloria performed exceptionally well on the two final shows at the All-Northwest Barbershop Quartet Contest. They received two separate standing ovations! They will be singing again this weekend at the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival.
Come listen to all school singers in choir and band during their spring concert on Monday, May 15th.
Westside’s Soli Deo Gloria qualified for the Oregon State Small Ensemble Championships last weekend. Soli is embarking on a busy spring! The group performed at the Solo and Ensemble contest and received a 97/100 score and qualified for the Oregon State Small Ensemble Championships on Friday, April 28th, at Pacific University!
Soli will also be featured on the 71st Annual All Northwest Barbershop Quartet Contest Finals shows at 2:00pm and 7:00pm on Saturday, March 25th. For tickets visit: www.balladtownusa.com.
Soli Deo Gloria competed on Friday and Saturday, April 15-16, at the 41st Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival and left as champions yet again.
A few highlights from Choral Director Mr. Fox:
Horrific motel experience (no rollaways, 1 room not cleaned, another room infested with fleas), fun breakfast, pictures on a playground, epic Dairy Queen, fabulous performances in the elimination and finals round, and overwhelming comments from our adjudicators about the level of Soli’s performance. There were jokes, laughter, and a servant’s attitude throughout from these amazing teens who are the only group (Westside’s Soli the past three years) in the 30 year history of PHJF to ever stay and help clean up everything that goes into a jazz festival of this scope. A McDonalds run at midnight and the weary, but satisfying drive home…it was a fabulous time with these students and three amazing chaperones that I love!!!
It was a perfect weekend!
