Volleyball won a big game against Horizon Christian last Thursday night. Westside came out strong and took the first two sets easily, before Horizon fought back to even the score 2 – 2. The last set was a tight match all the way until the end when Westside pulled away at the end, winning the final game 15-13.
Kendra Zuckerman led the team on offense with 10 kills, and Emma Molony led the team from the service line with 4 aces. Susannah Fischer headed up the defense with 19 digs, and our setters Lia Reid and Haley Shaver put up 15 and 13 assists, respectively. Westside Junior Chloe Brown has verbally committed to play volleyball at the University of Miami, having recently accepted their full ride scholarship offer. Miami competes at the Division I level in the Atlantic Coast Conference, also known as the ACC.
Chloe was named one of the Top 50 high school recruits in the country during her freshman year, garnering national attention from her play at both Westside and her club team Athena Volleyball Academy. With the dream of competing professionally, Chloe is excited for the athletic and personal development that will take place at the University of Miami. Miami’s women’s volleyball team has made the NCAA Tournament for the past seven consecutive years, and is only one of two teams in their Power 5 conference to do so. Chloe’s full scholarship offer includes all tuition, fees, books, room & board, supplies, and a monthly stipend.
When discussing Chloe’s verbal commitment, Westside’s Varsity Volleyball Coach Iben Andersen said, “I’m so excited for Chloe and Miami. It seems like the perfect match and I feel blessed to be a part of this young lady’s life and development. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for her and I’m very thankful for the hard work she put in here at Westside and with her club team Athena to make this a possibility.”
Westside is so proud of Chloe’s success on and off the court these last two years. We are excited about her remaining two years at Westside, and the future ahead after her 2018 graduation.
Westside Christian High School’s Girls Varsity Volleyball Team was awarded the AVCA Team Academic Award. The award “honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.”
Congratulations Lady Varsity Volleyball!
The Westside girls varsity volleyball team qualified for the State Tournament on Saturday after a 3-0 victory against Dayton High School. The win secured their # 3 position in league and sends them into the State Tournament this weekend.
After the district tournament a number of Westside players were honored: Chloe Brown was the West Valley League Player of the Year and 1st team All-League. Jackie Harmon & Lizzy Stefan were awarded second team all league, and Moriah Reid and Abbie Gillingham were given honorable mention. Out of 21 girls honored by the coaches of the West Valley League, five of them were Westside students.
Varsity volleyball had reason to celebrate last night after an epic 5 set victory on the road against league foe Dayton. The victory not only ended their regular season on high note, it also propelled Westside into a tie for second with Sheridan in the West Valley League. Westside is currently riding a three game winning streak as playoffs approach.
Final 3A – 2 West Valley League standings.
Time to celebrate.
