These products are so good! We hope you’ll think of them as your go-to dessert throughout the holidays. We’ve heard many stories from Westside community members who ate their pies much more quickly than anticipated last year. If you missed freezing your freshly picked fruit this summer, you can order it all here! All the details you need are below and in the attachments. If you have questions, email Wendy Pringle. What does PTF do with the funds?Good question! You’ve already started benefiting from the funds raised last year. The New Student meet and greet is an example of how the PTF uses funds to provide meaningful events for students, staff and parents that bring us together and build COMMUNITY. Other examples include the Staff Christmas Party, Baccalaureate, Graduation, and many other events throughout the academic year. The PTF is not funded through tuition. We raise all the funds we use to support these events. How do I participate? You can find order forms attached, or you can pick up one at the school in the office. We would encourage you to be creative in how you reach out to friends and family. Many people have found great success in using social media to increase their pie sales. Just upload the form onto social media, and the product will sell itself. If you do not want or need pies, cobblers, or fruit and desire to support your PTF, you can gift a pie, cobbler, or fruit to a teacher(s), family, or friends. You can also donate directly to the PTF by writing a check, and turning it into the office. If every student sold 2 items, we would meet our goal of 400 items sold. What else should I know?
- The deadline for orders is Wednesday, September 30th. You can email your order form to email@example.com or print them off and give to the office.
- The pies are frozen and unbaked with instructions on how to prepare them. If properly stored, they will last up to one year.
- Pickup will be Friday, October 16th, 2:30-4:00 PM at the school. Your pies and fruit will be delivered to school frozen (and they need to stay frozen)!
- The top three boy and girl sellers (6 in all) will win $20 towards the WCHS swag store.
- Payment: Friends and family members should pay you directly. Once you have collected all your orders, you will fill out the order form and attach a check made out to “Westside Christian High School”. This should be delivered to the front desk at school.

This past January, Westside Christian High School’s Athletic Department inducted its inaugural Hall of Fame Class. There was a Formal Banquet held on January 20th celebrating the four individuals and two teams of the inaugural class.
As we head into the 2020-2021 academic year, The Hall of Fame committee has remained active. The committee consists of WCHS Athletic Director, Rob Casteel; Head of School, John Hynes; Teacher, Scott Wright; Administrative Staff, Caroline Hottman and Cassandra Tyner; WCHS Boys’ Basketball Coach, David Henry; Former WCHS’ Girls’ Soccer Coach and former WCHS parent, Mike Staropoli.
Due to COVID-19, a date has not been set for the second banquet. We are currently contacting our second class to inform them of their induction. This class includes one of Westside Christian’s current teachers, coaches, and alumna - Kayla (Brase) Wicks. As we continue to contact inductees, we are working with families, getting memorabilia, videos, and conducting interviews. This process of working with the families is very rewarding, I hear stories of what God continues to do in the lives of these athletes. The Hall of Fame committee will continue to update you on our progress.

In response to Governor Brown’s latest announcement, the OSAA is shifting their programs to a similar model of our neighboring states - Washington and California. The Winter, Fall, and Spring competitive seasons will each be 8 weeks long. The seasons will begin with Winter sports in January and February, Fall athletic season has been moved to March and April and Spring sports will be in May and June. The OSAA calendar commences on August 31st. We will allow students and coaches to work together in small groups to condition and drill, while maintaining the county’s safety guidelines. As the county opens up, other opportunities may become available.Due to these recent changes the Fall Sports Parent Meeting this upcoming Tuesday has been canceled. If you have any questions, please contact Athletic Director Rob Casteel at 503.697.4711 x1336.
Dear Westside Christian Families: Yesterday, Governor Brown made an announcement with new restrictions rega [ ... ]Dear Westside Christian Families:Yesterday, Governor Brown made an announcement with new restrictions regarding the opening of schools for face-to-face instruction. Under these new guidelines, Washington County, and therefore Westside Christian, falls within the area of schools prohibited from opening for in house instruction. I understand that this is an emotional issue with a great many perspectives, but foremost in our minds here at Westside is to honor the name of Jesus Christ and be a positive witness for Him in our community. Therefore, any plan we devise to address the school closure will be made with this in mind. Over the ensuing few weeks, we will be putting together a plan for the start of school should the closure order still be in place five weeks from now.I continue to look at this crisis as a time of great opportunity for Westside Christian. We will continue to not only provide an exceptional educational experience, but will increase our efforts towards intentional discipleship even more. Our small size allows for us to be very creative with how we educate students, and I fully plan on many very safe, face-to-face opportunities with students to be a part of our opening plan. The best part of what makes this a great school will be preserved; the intimate relationships with students and teachers. Please continue to keep this school in your prayers as we forge ahead through this crisis. Nothing is beyond the scope of our great Redeemer and Savior, and I am confident we will emerge even better and stronger than before. In Christ,John HynesHead of School

Westside Christian High School Class of 2020 and families!
We look forward to celebrating graduation with you. As a staff, it has been a priority for us to take time to create a thoughtful and impactful event that will both celebrate and honor our graduating seniors. We appreciate your patience as we have continued to wait for additional information and guidelines from the Washington County.
Earlier this year, we said we would decide by July 10th the format of this event. We wanted to wait, as we hoped that Washington County would have reduced the restrictions of crowd size, and then we could host an event with our senior families on the soccer field that followed social distancing guidelines. Unfortunately, Washington County will unlikely be in Phase II by August 1st, and we need to finalize this event. Therefore, we will be hosting a Drive-through graduation event on August 1st at 1:00pm.
Class of 2020 and families, please check your email and let us know if you plan on attending by Friday, July 17th. We will send out an email with more information and details about the event a week before graduation.
We recognize and join our students and families in the heartbreak they have felt the last half of this year. Our senior class leadership did not go unnoticed in the final months, as they were often the ones leading and participating in our virtual chapels. They continued to host virtual class events and encourage community spirit. We have prayed fervently for you since the first day you walked through our doors. We pray that Westside Christian will always be a special place for you.Blessings,Amanda Howard, Director of MarketingJohn Hynes, Head of SchoolDenise Rose, Student Activities Director

On June 20th, WCHS student, Jonah A., provided and placed new benches and picnic tables on WCHS' campus as part of his Eagle Scout Project.
Jonah chose the project because he wanted to serve Westside Christian and thought this would be a fun way to provide a space for students and give back to the community.
"Scouts from my troop came to help, and we were able to install the tables and benches in 6 hours. It was a little tricky to work out how it would get done amidst the pandemic, but Mr. Casteel was a huge help and was super supportive in executing a plan to keep everyone safe and get the project done," Jonah shared of his experience.
The Westside Christian High School community is very grateful for Jonah's leadership and service. We look forward to seeing students gather together in these new spaces for years to come.

One year ago this month, my wife and I decided that we would take a respite from the twenty-seven years that I have been in High School education. Knowing I would return to this field, we prayed for the right opportunity and asked the Holy Spirit to make it clear to us where He would want me to serve. One year later, here we are! The path that our Lord paved for me to arrive at Westside as your next Head of School has been joyful, exciting, and even at times miraculous. Imagine being hired at all during these strange times, and to boot, imagine being hired entirely over Zoom, never even having seen the school I was going to lead! None of this was a barrier for God, however, and He made it clear with each and every interview that this was the place He wanted me. I wish to thank the search committee and board members for their exceedingly professional process through these past few months, for their kindness, and of course, for their future friendship.
I come to the Portland area with wide and varied experience in the field of education. After touring the campus last week, and finally meeting real people, I am confident that the Lord has uniquely prepared me as a leader for this school at this time in its illustrious forty-year history. This is a very good school with an extremely dedicated faculty. My goal over the ensuing years will be to help make it a great school, where students are not just treated to an outstanding education, but where they can grow spiritually, emotionally, and socially, as human beings made for service to their King Jesus Christ.
Many of the relationships I am leaving down here in Simi Valley are friendships I have made over the years as Principal at Grace Brethren High School. While it's difficult to leave them, I am excited to forge new relationships with you, my Westside family. In fact, I won’t have it any other way! So, let's do this together Westside, lets usher this school into the next 40 years with excellence and style. I look forward to partnering with you all on this endeavor.Blessings,

Please join us for Westside Christian High School's Virtual Spring Concert and Art Show "YouTube Premiere" next Tuesday, May 26th, at 7:00 pm.
This 75-minute concert will feature Westside Voices, Soli Deo Gloria, Concert Choir, Concert Band, an EagleBeat Drumline performance, and an Ignite (worship team class) presentation. We will also be showcasing select artwork from Westside’s art students.
The music students worked hard this winter and spring developing music for the State Championships, as well as for the Spring Concert and other festivals that were scheduled. It was so hard to lose most of these events and the opportunities to showcase these talented students. Our art students have also been working hard on their projects this spring.
In order to showcase this work, Mr. Fox and Mrs. Wicks have developed a virtual event for our community. This event will be presented online as a YouTube Premiere concert and art show. Follow this link to join the event: YouTube Premiere.
Westside Christian Art students have worked very hard this year on their projects. You can view their work online at the link below https://wicks37.wixsite.com/wchs-artshow. Some of these great works will also be featured tonight during the concert.
We hope to see you there to support these talented and hardworking students. We are so proud of each of them.

Westside Christian's Concert Band captured the Small School Division First Place Trophy at the NW Band Invitational [ ... ]
Westside Christian's Concert Band captured the Small School Division First Place Trophy at the NW Band Invitational Contest hosted by Clackamas Community College on March 10th.
The band scored the highest point total out of all fourteen bands present. Although due to the number of 6A schools present, Westside Christian High School's score was not comparable. Mr. Fox is very proud of the band members. He gives credit to the growth of the band's youngest players as "they've come a long way this year."
The band placed sixth overall in their sight-reading, but did well as they performed a sight-reading piece above their grade level! The performance judges gave the band 79, 79, and 80, really high scores for an Oregon band contest.
Through this performance, the band has qualified for the Oregon State Band Championships on May 14th! Congratulations to Mr. Fox and the Westside Christian High School Concert Band.
Westside Christian's Concert Choir earned scores of 96, 95, and 90 from the three adjudicators at the Linfield Choir [ ... ]
Westside Christian's Concert Choir earned scores of 96, 95, and 90 from the three adjudicators at the Linfield Choir Festival on Wednesday, February 19th, and earned another berth to the Oregon Choir State Championships on May 7th at Oregon State University.
A perfectly sunny day at Linfield College helped make the day even better, as Westside Christian hosted the event which included thirteen other school choirs. Every WCHS student had a job during the event, in addition to singing well in their performance. Jobs included timers, escorts for other choirs, crowd control, reception desk, and couriers for the judges and videographer, etc.
The choir performed five songs in the set. The first piece was a Renaissance piece called Missa Secunda (Kyrie), sung to the Latin text, "Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy." The second piece sung was a contemporary ballad composed by Daniel Gawthrop called Sing Me To Heaven which describes the wish of a dying man. Mangisondele Nkosi Yam was sung next. It is a song composed by South African composer Michael Barrett that features the hymn theme, "Nearer My God to Thee," as it cries out in a rhythmic and fun piece. Next, the choir sang Steven Paulus' The Road Home, featuring a beautiful text of verses calling people back to the path that leads to God. The choir's concluding song was William Dawson's classic, Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit, an upbeat spiritual.
The choir, made up of two different choir classes (Soli Deo Gloria and Westside Voices) will now turn their attention to new music for the spring. Soli will compete at the CCC Vocal Jazz Festival March 12th with an acappella jazz package and will sing and compete as a mixed barbershop chorus at the Evergreen District's Division IV contest on April 18th in Salem. This is the first venture into barbershop music that our choir program has attempted.
The Concert Choir will also attend its Annual Spring Choir Retreat on April 5-6 at Camp Yamhill. It is always a favorite choir activity, filled with fun, hard work and food as the choir preps for the state championships.
